Drain Pans

Drain pans are highly effective devices that are used to collect the extra water or residual water and prevent them from getting into the machinery. You can find drain pans in a variety of machines.

Now almost every appliance and gadget seems to have a drain pan installed in it. Major mechanical devices like vehicles have an oil drain pan that captures all the excess oil and grease and prevents it from falling on the road. A water heater drain pan can often be seen under the water heater as it prevents moisture problems from affecting the performance of the water heater. Water filters have a reverse osmosis drain pan under them for similar reasons. So you can see that water seepage and related problems have made the drain pan one of the most important components of most appliances.

Material And Quality

Oil drain pans are usually made of metal or recycled plastic. When we say plastic, do not be fooled as the plastic is highly resilient and is extremely tough. If it can bear the brunt of hot oil and grease then it can bear the brunt of anything. An advanced version of this called as the oil storage and drain pan is also used in some machines. This has a larger size when compared to the normal drain pan. A shower drain pan is normally made of metal like stainless steel with chrome plating. These have a dual purpose and have to look as good as effective as they are. However, now, fiberglass drain pans are also quite common in up market bathrooms as they look simply stunning. They also come in a huge variety of colors, shapes and designs. A water drain pan however need not be so exquisite looking as long as it serves the purpose. If you have a tile shower, then a drain pan is one of the most necessary things for your shower.

Other Types

If you are not willing to spend as much for the drain pan, then you can get the stainless steel drain pan. It is equally effective if not more. Zurn shower pan drain is a high quality cast iron drain pan that is common in many showers. You can also install a drain pan under the washer to protect it against water overflow. This is called a washer drain pan. This is also used in hot water tanks and hence is called a hot water tank drain pan in some cases. Drain pan sealers are then used to fix them in place.
